这两个词没有什么关系，Austria只是Oesterreich的拉丁化。
维基上面是这么写的：

。。。不知准不准确，但是好像Auster不管和Ost还是和East都有关系啊。。。
所以说答主猜对了，确实是同源。
然而，现代罗曼语里面表示南方的词通常有三个来源，第一种是类似于法语的Sud（日耳曼），第二种是来自于Auster的Austral（拉丁），还有一种是Meridion（同样是拉丁）。最后一种我不清楚是哪里来的。
希望有大神能补充一下。
