My answer to some questions with some details on the school & programmes to help anyone interested:
In a nutshell:
you can see LBS programmes this way:
MiFA = MiM + finance focus
MiF FT = MBA + finance focus
MiF PT = EMBA + finance focus
MBA = typical MBA programme with exchange options to some really amazing BS (Columbia/NYU/HBS/Booth etc)
EMBA = MBA for senior (in terms of corporate title) ppl, part time
Sloan = Exec study for senior (both in terms of corporate title & ..er….age :)) ppl
MiM (Masters in Management) — for fresh grads from university.
You can also do the same (or joint) programme in Shanghai (Fudan Uni) I think.
This is entry level masters with no working experience required. Course selections are less technical and many of the MBA/MiF courses, you can NOT choose because they require prior knowledge.
That said, as this is a typical pre-working experience masters degree in the UK, you can easily pitch into a recruitment programme by may companies/banks and its not too bad to get an entry level job in large banks with this degree in London.
MiFA is the new one. I say its very similar to MiM in terms of entry requirement, but more technical and target at people who are very focused in Finance (that’s what the school told us…)
If you are till an undergrad, your should aim for MiFA/MiM depending on what area you want to focus.
LBS is very well received in UK/EU and HongKong, even in the US (the MBAs are mostly US students). Not so much in the Mainland China as it has not been heavily marketed there (don’t know why). But I think maybe its a relatively small school with only graduate programmes and EU/UK focus.
So if you want to go work in Mainland China in the future, maybe should consider other more “famous” schools, such as Cambridge or LSE. But if you target at London/HK, then LBS is definitely superior to any other BS in Europe.
its targeted at people with less working experience, but with a focus to go into Finance, technical. Im a graduate of the MiF Part time programme. From the consultation meetings we had with the school, there are certain classes you can’t take. I think a close comparison with this new course would be its current MiM (Master in Management).
